Ecommerce can best explained in sections. The first section is your website(web hosting). Your website will tell general information concerning your company, provide your company with email, provide security with SSL, all under www.yourdomainname.com.
The next section is still part of your website, but it is a storefront. Your storefront will have your products seperated by category, give the ability for the customer to browse your catalog, search for items and order multiple items at once that will be held in that customers shopping basket until that shopper is ready to checkout. At checkout, the storefront will capture the shopper's order and information. Once the shopper's information has been captured, the information is passed to the next section, the ecommerce management system.
The ecommerce management system will calculate the shipping, check inventory and pass the information seemlessly to your online credit card processor. However, if you chose not to do online credit card processing, it will email the order to you for offline processing. The online credit card processor will charge the shopper's credit card in realtime, pass that the approval back to the management portion of the ecommerce package, and pass the approval to your merchant account to transfer the funds to your bank account. You will then be able to login to your management console to manage orders, update inventory, manage customers, view sales reports and graphs, and much more. This can all be done very easily through a browser from anywhere in the world. |
